Sixth Form Girls Selected For KPMG Summer Internships
Wednesday, 01 July 2015
Kate Ball and Abigail Harrison have been selected for the KPMG summer internship programme. This scheme, which is headed by Old Girl Katie Clinton, is an opportunity for two Bolton School Sixth Form students to work at one of the ‘Big Four’ Professional Services firms in the UK.
Earlier in the year, Katie returned to School with her colleague Graham Carney to launch the KPMG summer internships for the fifth year running. These paid internships allow pupils to work with the Audit and Corporate Finance teams during the summer holidays, spending two weeks in each department and learning how these areas of business work while experiencing a corporate environment. As well as being an invaluable source of work experience, this also makes a great addition to pupils’ CVs.
All applicants go through a rigorous and challenging application process, which is identical to the process faced by school leavers and graduates applying to the company. However, only two pupils across both Divisions are chosen, and this year Kate and Abigail were awarded this exciting opportunity.
Abigail said, “I am extremely honoured to have been selected as one of only two successful applicants for the KPMG internship. I am looking forward to gaining hands-on experience within a world-leading financial organisation, acquiring insight into the audit and corporate finance functions.”
In addition to her internship with KPMG, Abigail is completing a work placement in Nottingham over the summer holidays.
Kate was also delighted to have been chosen for the internship. As she is considering a career in accountancy, and possibly a higher apprenticeship with KPMG after she leaves Bolton School, the experience will no doubt stand her in good stead for the future. Although she found the interview challenging, she really enjoyed meeting some of KPMG’s employees and hearing their inspiring tales of working with many different companies and in various sectors. She hopes that the internship will help to confirm her career plans and choice of degree.
Both girls will join KPMG’s Manchester office in late July.
