Thursday, 21 November 2013
Girls’ Division Sixth Form students enjoyed an absorbing presentation by Dr Alex Baratta from the University of Manchester about the close links between accent and identity.
Year 12 and 13 girls were invited to discuss their own prejudices before he referred to theories and recent research that considers this intriguing area of socio-linguistics.
Girls’ Division English teacher, Mrs Elizabeth Lowe said: “After the talk we discussed how we might work together in the future and we are now looking forward to inviting Alex back in the near future!”
