Sixth Form Scientists in Chemistry Olympiad
Wednesday, 29 January 2014
Lower and Upper Sixth Form students of Bolton School Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions have been pitting their wits against scientists nationally in this year’s Royal Society of Chemistry’s Olympiad.
Today over 20 students sat the Round 1 two-hour examination which tests chemical knowledge. Tackling the paper provides a great opportunity to develop some of the skills required for study at university and beyond. If students perform exceptionally, they receive a gold certificate; typically, at least a couple of entrants from the School will perform at this level annually. Students also receive silver, bronze and commendation certificates.
The top 30 performing students in the country progress to Round 2 which comprises a 3 hour written exam and a 3 hour practical exam, held over the course of a weekend field trip. From this round, four students are then chosen to represent the UK in an international competition which, this year, will be held in Vietnam.
We wish them all the very best of luck!
