Sixth Formers Attend International Relations and Languages Conference
Monday, 23 June 2014
Year 12 A-Level Spanish students travelled to Aston University in Birmingham with Miss Irvine for the International Relations and Languages Sixth Form Conference.
The Head of International Relations at the university, Dr Nathaniel Copsey, gave an enlightening talk entitled ‘Europe in the Asian Century’, which challenged attendees to question the perceived importance of the world stage. He also reiterated that employers are increasingly seeking graduates with language skills and congratulated the students on opting to study languages at A-Level and potentially beyond.
The second seminar, presented by Dr Olga Castro, was called ‘Spain and Latin America: Conflicting Interests at Stake’ in which the students looked at case studies highlighting the tensions emerging between these countries despite their close political, cultural and economic links.
The Sixth Formers found both lectures very eye-opening.
