Students’ Telephone Campaign to Benefit Next Generation
Friday, 05 October 2012
Fifteen Sixth Form students, who left Bolton School in the Summer, have raised £105,000, which will help provide bursaries for future Bolton School pupils and will go towards equipment for the ICT Suite in the new joint Sixth Form Centre which is currently being built and will open in September 2013.
Julia Bates, Head of Development at the School and organiser of the campaign, said: “Over a two week period, the students called former Bolton School pupils who had indicated that they would be happy to talk to current students about fundraising activities. I was very impressed at their professional and business-like approach and they have done outstandingly well to raise over £100,000. The experience is something that they can put on their CV and has provided them with an opportunity to develop many skills which will assist them in their university studies and beyond into the world of work. The money raised will be split between providing bursaries – something that is very important to the School, one in five pupils now receive assistance with their school fees, and enhancing the new Sixth Form Centre, which will provide “the best of both worlds” as students share joint facilities whilst still enjoying a single-sex education.”
