Sixth Form student Tejal Shanbhag has recently had cause to celebrate: she has received offers from two of the top universities in the country!
One of the offers has come from Imperial College London, where she had applied to study Aeronautical Engineering; the university has also offered her a Rector’s Undergraduate Scholarship worth £3000 per year if she makes this her firm choice. Her other offer is a place reading Engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge.
She now has to select just one to be her first choice.
This is by no means an easy feat as both universities have a sterling reputation. The Complete University Guide ranks Cambridge as the top university overall for 2014, with Imperial College London coming in fourth. In the league tables for Engineering courses specifically, Cambridge is at the top of the list once again, with Imperial College London coming in a close second.
The Rector’s Undergraduate Scholarship is a huge enticement towards Imperial College London. However, there are advantages to choosing Cambridge as well. Tejal is drawn to the more broad-based course at Cambridge, where she will only have to specialise in her third year. There are also grants and scholarships she can apply for at Cambridge.
There is therefore a lot to consider before she makes her final decision.
Tejal is one of eight Bolton School Sixth Form students to receive an offer from Oxford or Cambridge University this year.
