Would-be Lawyers in Courtroom Drama
Saturday, 24 November 2012
Students from the Girls’ Division and Boys’ Division Sixth Form at Bolton School combined together and performed admirably at the prestigious Sir Rhys Davies Mock Trials, held at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester.
The Sixth Formers, adorned in legal regalia, took on the role of advocates, witnesses, court officials and court reporters. Their performances were assessed by some of Manchester’s leading Crown Court judges and lawyers.
The girls and boys competed in alternate rounds in the competition. The boys lost in Round One but the girls beat Altrincham Girls in the Second Round and despite another victory in the Third Round for the boys, the School just missed out on progressing to the final by one point.
Mrs Rose Thornborough who accompanied the students on the day said: “The Mock Trials went really well and the students seemed to get a lot from it. They certainly did us proud and we were disappointed to not quite make it to the final.”
