‘Mutare Vel Timere Sperno - What Bolton School Taught Me About Fear and Change’

This year's Tillotson Lecture will be given by Old Boy David Williams (Class of 1999), a Director of Public Affairs at The Rank Group.

Despite having never fully recovered from defeat at Craven Cottage in the ISFA Cup Final of 1997, David went on to be School Captain in 1998/99, before joining a conveyor belt of geographers at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. Narrowly dodging a terrorist bomb in Bali, David went on to pursue a career in public relations, corporate affairs and investor relations.

Having spent a number of years on racecourses, he now combines a role in Westminster and Whitehall with City responsibilities at the Rank Group Plc. Almost thirty years since attending his last Tillotson Lecture, David will return to reflect on the life lessons learned at school; and how fear, change and resilience continue to battle for supremacy at work and beyond.

This will be the 53rd Tillotson Lecture held at Bolton School.
