Entry to the Junior Boys' School
Year 3 Entry
All applicants to Year 3 (from schools other than Bolton School Infant School) sit our Entrance Examination in the January before they wish to join the School. They complete papers in:
- Verbal reasoning
- Non-verbal reasoning
as well as a creative writing essay task set by the School.

All applicants must fill out an Entrance Examination application form, which can be downloaded here or requested from the Junior School Secretary on 01204 434735.
Entry to Years 4, 5 and 6
Depending on pupil migration, places are sometimes available in Years 4, 5 and 6. Applicants to these year groups complete web-based Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning exams, a reading test and a piece of creative writing.
