This National Apprenticeship Week, Bolton School celebrates the positive impact of apprenticeships on current students and recent leavers.

For the past several years, Bolton School has seen more and more Sixth Formers choosing to apply for Degree Apprenticeships. The School has developed strong support for those ambitious students choosing to take this path. Degree Apprenticeships offer an alternative to traditional university study: the opportunity to ‘earn while you learn’ and gain both practical skills and professional experience while at the same time earning a full honours degree.

So far this year, six Sixth Form students have been successful in their Degree Apprenticeship applications. Elise and Harry have received offers for Engineering apprenticeships, while Haider, Ed, Harrison and Lydia have received offers for Finance apprenticeships. More success stories are expected in the coming weeks.

Haider said, “I went for this route because I thought that being able to get the interpersonal skills from the workplace would be really helpful, and especially the work experience. I think School’s helped me because they were able to help me build my CV and the whole online application, and also helped me with the interview at the end.”

Elise said: “Bolton School helped me to get a Degree Apprenticeship because I got loads of experience, for example the Entrepreneurship Scheme in school and my EPQ, which I could use in my interviews.”

Mr Deane Lamb, Bolton School’s Degree Apprenticeship Lead, said: “I am delighted by the hard work and resilience our students show when applying for these highly competitive Degree Apprenticeship placements. Academic support, career guidance and opportunities to grow academically and in terms of character are key parts of their experience in Bolton School’s Sixth Form and it is always a privilege to see how the students develop into young people who will make a positive difference in the world.”

This follows on from the achievements of the Class of 2025: last year was Bolton School’s most successful yet for students securing degree apprenticeships, with placements at some of the UK’s most prestigious institutions as well as leading international firms:

  • Audiology: Zara
  • Commercial: Anna
  • Engineering and Manufacturing: Adam, Ella, Tristan and Jake
  • Finance: Alex, Safeeya, Zainulabidin, Ben, Fatima, Zahara, Mohammed-Yusuf, Ziyad and Suliman
  • Law: Harriet
