Patterdale Hall is a Residential Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre owned and managed by Bolton School, but available to everyone.

We are an AALA licensed activity and residential learning centre available for hire by all groups. We are based at the Southern end of Lake Ullswater within easy reach of population centres in both the North West and North East of England, and we have also welcomed clients from throughout the rest of the UK and overseas.

We offer a fully catered service for up to 70 clients, although are willing to talk to any group no matter how small, and will tailor-make an activity programme should you require it.

All our activities take place on the doorstep of the centre with no need to travel in minibuses and waste valuable time. We are ideally located with natural crags and a 7 mile long lake all within easy reach on foot from the centre. Our 80 acres of extensive grounds allow access straight onto the Lakeland fells for walking, mountaineering and so much more. We have an adventurous gorge that flows through the grounds of the estate.

I’ve stayed at many outdoor activity centres in the Lakes over the last 3 years and Patterdale Hall is by far the best, the most organised and experienced team I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Not only that the instructor I worked with engaged and challenged the team to a level well suited to them, they also enabled me to get the most from the activities. To finish it all off the food is home-made, of high quality and there is plenty of it. I definitely will be coming back at some point. Thanks you so much.

Our year 6 pupils have attended for Adventure Learning at Patterdale Hall for over 15 years. We have always found the structured experiential learning programmes to work excellently at developing self confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, whilst setting them up well to transition to secondary school. Using a challenge by choice ethos and high staff ratios the activity tutors are able to individually challenge our pupils, so that they all take the most away possible. I highly recommend Patterdale Hall.
