Our tailor-made programmes will help to build and develop the required characteristics in your apprentices.
To do this we use a range of carefully considered outdoor activities and both physical and mental challenges, coupled with time for planning and review. Where possible, we use workplace relevant analogies and language to aid learning transfer.
Our programmes start and finish in the workplace or college situation, ensuring that delegates are prepared for and get the very best out of their time spent with us. Programme follow-up, review and personal evaluation helps to ensure that learning transfer and positive developments are well-grounded and long-lasting.

The Residential Experience
Delegates will be accommodated in Patterdale Hall, a Victorian country house. The accommodation is similar to that of a good quality hostel and the food at Patterdale Hall is of a very good standard. The facilities on offer include a comprehensive equipment store, fantastically effective drying room, comfortable lounge with log burning stove, and a games room. Meals are taken in our traditional dining room.
We are able to work with groups of up to 5 groups of 12 apprentices and each group will have its own breakout room to personalise. This is an indoor space to bring the outdoor learning indoors: a space to plan, frontload and review the learning of the day.
The Details
A dedicated member of Patterdale Hall staff will work with your organisation to tailor-make a programme and experience to fulfil your needs. The nature of the fully-equipped centre means that delegates need only arrive with sensible and suitable outdoor clothing.

Walking boots, waterproofs and fleece jackets can be provided, along with all technical outdoor equipment. Due to Patterdale Hall’s unique location, once delegates have arrived all activities are accessed straight from the Hall with no need for further travel, thus maximising the use of time.
The Cost
Final cost depends on the chosen programme. We are a small provider with much lower overheads than others so are able to keep our costs quite low compared with other development providers.
Many programme durations are possible, from weekend to 7 day apprentice programmes and everything in between.
Any profits generated from activities undertaken at Patterdale Hall are gifted to the Bolton School bursary fund.

Patterdale Hall is a residential venue in the inspiring Lake District. Specialist staff provide hospitality and training for a range of organisations, often using outdoor and adventurous activities and experiences as the vehicle for development.
Your company will share with you relevant information prior to your visit. They may not share the exact program. You are most likely to have a mix of indoor and outdoor sessions. We operate a 'Challenge by Choice' way of working and whilst we expect all delegates to give things a go and try, we will not force you into doing things. However we recognise that it is when people step outside of their comfort zone, that they gain the most from the experience. Do raise any concerns you may have.
You will be sent a packing list prior to your visit.
Patterdale Hall is superbly set up with all the equipment for activities, such as boots and waterproofs, warm jackets, hats and gloves along with wetsuits and all specialist technical equipment. If you have your own boots and waterproofs, you may wish to bring them along, but please do not go out and buy anything your don't want to.
Old/less valuable clothing is key, things you are comfortable wearing and happy enough to perhaps get a little grubby in.
Please bring some indoor footwear to wear inside our lovely building of your other shoes are muddy.
Don't forget your washing kit if you are staying overnight along with a towel. Do speak up to a member of staff if your forget anything, we can help you out.
Safety is our Number One concern. We think through all our activities very carefully in order to reduce risk to a tolerable level by adding in control measures. The dynamic variables such as you, your team and the weather are then considered nearer the time and on the day. We will share with you and involve you in this risk management process.
If there is anything you are unsure about, you should let us know. We value your contribution to our risk management processes.
By their very nature, adventurous activities can maintain an aspect of residual risk, this is often what helps it to be challenging and exciting. We consider and balance the residual risk against the benefit that can be gained from the activity.
