Following its launch earlier in the summer, the philanthropic support of the entire Bolton School community has ensured that the Open Futures Bursary Campaign has had a tremendously successful start, with just under £520,000 already donated or pledged in just four months.

The Open Futures Bursary Campaign was launched in May to invite the entire School community to join together to safeguard the future growth of its bursary scheme, which benefits so many students and families across the Foundation.

Reflecting on this initial success, Philip Britton, Head of Foundation at Bolton School, commented:

“For over a century, Bolton School has driven social mobility amongst families in Bolton and beyond, and the continuation of that ethos will be fundamental to the School’s future success.

In May, we launched the Open Futures Bursary Campaign to put our ambitious plans for the growth of that nationally-leading bursary scheme, towards supporting 1 in 3 Senior School pupils from the 1 in 5 currently funded, back on track.

I am delighted that it has been so well-received by our School community,  and I am sincerely grateful to all of the Alumni, parents, colleagues and others who have chosen to offer their support to the Campaign at this vital moment in the School’s history.

We are honoured that so many people share our belief in the transformational power of a Bolton School education, and hope that, as the Campaign gathers pace, many others might consider joining them – and me - in supporting it. Every gift, of every size, will make a difference to our success.”

If every member of the Bolton School community established a monthly donation of £30, with Gift Aid, its bursary scheme would expand to support one in three pupils within the next decade, changing the lives of up to 250 more bursary children than are in the School presently.
