Bolton School Awards

Bolton School is proud to have been named a Finalist in the Independent School of the Year for Contribution to Social Mobility category at the Independent Schools of the Year (ISOTY) 2025 awards, following its successful shortlisting earlier in the summer.

The ISOTY Awards are now in their eighth year and recognise stories of success across the independent education sector. The Finalists were chosen by a judging panel of sector leaders.

Philip Britton, the School’s Head of Foundation, said:

“We are so pleased that the Independent School of the Year 2025 Awards have recognised Bolton School’s long-term commitment to social mobility. It is vitally important that our pupil community remains socially diverse, as this is one of the things that makes Bolton School such a special place to learn, and we are proud to have had our nationally-leading work in the field of social mobility acknowledged through our selection as a Finalist. This is something that matters to everyone in our School community, as seen in the fantastic start to our Open Futures Bursary Campaign, which, since its launch in May, has already raised £520,000 to grow our bursary scheme.”

In 2023-24, the School spent £3.59 million on bursaries, supporting 374 pupils: 1 in 5 of its students. Although this already means that Bolton School has one of the most generous bursary schemes in the UK, the ambition does not end there. The School remains committed to ensuring that every talented young person has the opportunity to realise their potential through an outstanding education, regardless of their family’s financial means. The School aspires to grow its bursary scheme to support 1 in 3 pupils through the Open Futures Bursary Campaign.

Bolton School’s selection as a finalist also commends the School’s extensive and wide-ranging partnership work, which both encourages and supports potential bursary candidates and their families as they make their applications, and also raises aspirations for young people in schools across the region.

The ISOTY 2025 winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 14 October.
