Junior Girls

This week, parents and family members of Year 4 pupils were invited to Hesketh House for a special Creative Thinking Gallery showcasing their daughters’ cross-curricular work on Ancient Egypt.

The Creative Thinking Galleries offer pupils the opportunity to share their learning with peers, teachers and family members. The Galleries combine learning in subjects such as English, History, Art, Geography and Science into inquiry projects; a wonderful celebration of discovery.

There was a buzz in Hesketh House Hall as Year 4 presented their Assembly. Staff and parents were amazed by the girls' confidence as they took everyone on a journey into Ancient Egypt. Pupils confidently shared the learning process and communicated their knowledge. This develops important oracy skills while at the same time demonstrating a high level of understanding.

It was lovely to see the girls proudly show visitors their artefacts made as part of their Reading Award, explain their Keynote presentations and show how knowledge learnt in lessons can be brought to life.

The Junior Girls’ School’s work on Creative Thinking Galleries has been featured in a recent Rethinking Assessment case study celebrating creativity, courage and collaboration of schools exploring what assessment could look like when it reflects the full breadth of learning. The Creative Thinking Galleries and their associated inquiry projects have been featured alongside the school’s recent adoption of digital portfolios to evidence girls’ work. These portfolios provide a visually-rich, creative and thorough presentation of pupils’ creative and reflective journeys and their understanding of their individual projects.
