Nine-year old Arthur Buck, a Year 4 pupil at Park Road, the Junior Boys’ School at Bolton School, has won this year’s DK Learning’s “Ask an ‘Ologist” competition. His prize, for his class, was a visit from Egyptologist Professor Joann Fletcher and, for his school, 50 DK Eyewitness books focussing on a wide range of topics including Ancient Egypt, Ancient Rome, the periodic table, fish, dinosaurs, sharks and cats! The “Ologists” are the brains behind the Eyewitness series of books.

Arthur beat hundreds of other entrants in the competition to ask the most interesting question in one of four topics: Dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt, Science or Animals. His query focused on why Egyptians settled where they did when there weren’t that many resources.

Professor Fletcher, an honorary visiting professor in the department of archaeology at the University of York, came into the school to talk to Year 4 boys about all aspects of life in Ancient Egypt. She then set the class off on a task of their own before conducting a question and answer session.
