Sixth Form Boys

Officers from GMP’s Serious Road Traffic Collision Unit and Road Safety campaigner Ian Brown-Lartey met Boys’ Division students in Years 12 and 13 to educate them about the importance of driving safely and legally.

Students heard a presentation from a Family Liaison Officer, who shared her experiences about delivering news of a fatality to their loved ones. Students then viewed the wreckage of Joseph Brown-Lartey’s Audi A5. Joseph was just 25 when he was killed by an 18-year-old dangerous driver, who was speeding at 80mph in a 30mph zone. The driver ran a red light and hit Joseph’s car with such force that it split in two. Joseph’s parents have campaigned to change the law: judges can now impose life sentences for causing death by dangerous driving. They also honour their son’s memory through preventative education by allowing young drivers to view the wreckage of their son’s Audi.

The presentation was a powerful and compelling reminder of the fatal consequences of dangerous driving.
