Year 6 pupil Petra Critchley, who attends the Junior Girls’ School at Bolton School, has been called up to the Merseyside Netball Academy.

Petra has shown potential in netball for a number of years and currently plays Goal Attack for Chorley Infernos. She has been with the Chorley side for five years and has played for their Years 6, 8 and 9 teams and for the Bolton School Years 5 and 6 team.

Merseyside is the only local county that provides trials for players under the age of 11 and Petra attended a morning event in Birkenhead two weeks ago. In the session, she played GA, GK and WA in front of a number of selectors. On the day, she played in the final game, which was judged by the selector.

Petra’s mum, Mrs Rachel Critchley, said:

Petra started playing netball from a young age when her older sister began playing for Chorley Infernos. She works hard to achieve a high standard of netball and make her coach proud. She is inspired by her older sister Pippa and her team Thunderbolts and Helen Housby, who she supported in the Commonwealth Games. Petra constantly watches matches to learn more about the game.

Her teachers believe her to be incredibly talented and to have an exciting future ahead of her.
