Bolton School has invested in the extensive renovation of two dining spaces over the summer holidays.
From September, students in the Boys’ Division will enjoy an updated Dining Hall experience and, for the first time, Sixth Form students will be served their lunches within the Riley Sixth Form Centre. This renovation continues work completed at Easter to introduce new branding to reflect the School’s fresh partnership with caterers Thomas Franks, who now provide all of the School’s catering services.
The Riley Café, situated on the first floor of the School’s central Sixth Form Centre, has been updated and extended to allow full lunch service for the whole of the Sixth Form. This is the first time that students in Years 12 and 13 have been served lunch within the Riley Centre, and means that they can now enjoy spending time in their own dedicated Sixth Form space throughout the whole of the day.
To facilitate this change, extra tabled seating has been added in both the front and back areas of the first floor, providing more room for students to enjoy their meals. The rear of the first floor also includes refurbished soft seating areas, where students can relax between lessons and at lunchtime. The Café will remain open throughout the day for students to purchase hot and cold drinks and snacks, and has been updated with a brand new coffee machine and new ovens to improve the service and range of food and drink choices on offer.
The Riley Centre was originally designed as a physical “stepping stone” to support our Sixth Form students as they prepare to move into adulthood, and these fresh updates enhance the modern, mature atmosphere of the School's dedicated Sixth Form area.
In addition, the Boys’ Division Dining Hall had been updated with a fresh, clean look that further ties in with the new standard of food offering from Thomas Franks. This includes modern ‘metro wall’ style tiles that bring the room up to date while remaining in keeping with the traditional dining tables and benches that have been retained. The servery now includes a bespoke salad counter with a prechilled plate, alongside angled counters for hot food and dedicated spaces to pick up soup, sandwiches, and dessert items including fruit. Large screens visible from the queue will direct pupils to the correct counters for their meal, allowing for a more streamlined lunch service.
The renovations were planned in collaboration with Thomas Franks and their design team, and reflect the School’s ongoing commitment to this exciting catering partnership and the choice it provides for our students.
