This week is National Careers Week, and the theme for the launch event is Transforming the Future of Work Experience. As the UK’s leading voices in careers education gather in York alongside a panel of youth voices to discuss how to meaningfully connect students with the world of work, Bolton School celebrates its longstanding work experience partnership with financial services firm Cowgills.

The Cowgills Future Stars Programme has been running for over a decade, helping two Sixth Form students each year to develop valuable skills for their future working life through three weeks of work experience. Successful applicants gain in-depth insights into the world of business and finance, developing valuable corporate experience as they attend meetings, complete project work and shadow senior managers. Students can choose to work with any three of Cowgills’ departments.

Year 12 students Neva and Advaith were selected after going through the application and interview process, and are now set to make the most of this opportunity.

Advaith studies Economics, Physics, Maths and Further Maths and hopes in the future to work towards an economics-based degree at university, and ultimately go into Investment Banking. He will be working in Tax, Corporate Finance and Business Recovery and, when asked what this work experience meant to him, said: “I think this opportunity will give me hands-on experience in this professions and help me make better decisions on what I want to do in the future.”

Neva is currently studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and has plans to apply for a degree apprenticeship or study natural sciences at university. With Cowgills, she will be working in Corporate Finance, Audit. Speaking about the Cowgills Future Stars programme, she said: “This opportunity is going to allow me to understand more about what it’s like to work in a company like Cowgills, and also the skills I got from preparing for this interview will help me in the future.”

The Cowgills Future Stars programme was established for Bolton School Sixth Form students in 2015 and has run annually ever since.
