Bolton School is once again supporting Urban Outreach with their Christmas Hampers this year, helping to bring some festive cheer to those in need. The Hampers contain everything needed for a complete Christmas dinner and are given to families in Bolton who would not otherwise be able to enjoy a special meal at Christmas.

A grand total of 3,452 selection boxes were collected from across the Foundation.

Every year, Bolton School’s ‘Hamper Challenge’ asks everyone across the Foundation to donate one specific item, which them supplies all of Urban Outreach’s Hampers. This year, the goal was 3,000 selection boxes.

Despite a very slow start in November, the School went all out to drum up support. The Junior Girls and Junior Boys set up a friendly rivalry to see who could donate the most, reporting their progress to each other every day and resulting in over 500 selection box donations. In the Girls’ Division, Mrs Entwistle took to the stage in a variety of novelty festive headwear in morning assemblies to give updates and encourage donations, and the Boys’ Division used some Charity Committee funds to build on collections from around the school. Donations came in from the Infant School, and Alumni and Friends of Bolton School attending the November lunches held in school were also invited to boost the collection.

At the beginning of December, representatives of Urban Outreach visited Bolton School to collect all of the donations. The School was delighted to be able to supply more than 400 extra selection boxes on top of the goal amount, as well as some extra boxes of chocolates, too!

In addition to supporting the Christmas Hampers through donations, a team of students will help to pack the Hampers at Urban Outreach in the last week of term.
