This year, Bolton School held its inaugural celebration of Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colours, to mark the beginning of spring.
Boys’ and Girls’ Division pupils from the Senior Schools and Sixth Forms gathered at the end of the school day for a Colour Run around the Levels, the School playing fields. Despite some drizzle, pupils were in high spirits as they donned white t-shirts, sunglasses and bandanas in preparation. There was a short speech about the meaning of Holi and its significance in Indian and Hindu culture before the starting air-horn sounded and they set off.
Sixth Form volunteers at three colour stations had fun showering the runners in brightly-coloured powders throughout their four laps, bringing a little extra colour to the grey afternoon. By the end of the run, white t-shirts had been dyed all colours of the rainbow and there were smiles all round!
Earlier in the day, Boys’ Division students and some Sixth Form Girls gathered for tie-dye workshops, where they made their own colourful t-shirts guided by the Boys’ Division Art Department. There was also Indian food for lunch and colourful decorations in the Dining Halls to bring the celebration to all Boys’ and Girls’ Division pupils.
The day was a wonderful celebration of the Hindu festival of Holi and allowed students to share this cultural highlight.
