Bolton School is sad to announce the death last night of Andy McGinty, its long-standing water polo coach.
This tragic and unexpected news is a moment of great sorrow for the entire Bolton School community.
Andy joined the School as its water polo coach in September 2011. Since then, he has coached many hundreds of water polo players across the Foundation and has played a significant part in the School's long-term success in the sport.
Andy’s passion for water polo and commitment to the students he coached was evident in all that he did. He will be greatly missed by all of us here who knew him.
In the coming days, we will continue to offer support to any pupils, parents and staff members who are affected by this news, either directly or indirectly. As a mark of respect to Andy’s family and all those who will mourn him, the School asks people not to speculate about this news online and to discourage others from doing so.
We are in contact with Andy’s family and with their blessing, hope to make arrangements for Andy’s contributions to the Bolton School water polo programme to be commemorated properly later in the new year. We will of course share those arrangements with the School community once confirmed.
