Bolton School Girls’ Division Year 12 student Astrid is excited to be travelling to Yale University this summer to take part in their Young Global Scholars programme. This is an outstanding achievement as over 14,000 students from around the world apply for just 1,000 places. Astrid will study from Yale professors and post-doctoral fellows and collaborate with fellow students on projects focused around the Politics of Law and Economics.

Astrid said: “I coincidentally came across Yale Young Global Scholars and, upon researching it further, it sort of ticked all of the boxes! It was explorative, it was diverse, it was academically rigorous and it just seemed like a really great place to be. Being supported by my Economics teacher Miss Jones has been really helpful, and is what pushed me towards the PLE session, which is the Politics of Law and Economics. She pushed me to pursue more academic opportunities that promotes economic thinking.”

In the future, Astrid hopes to study Economics at university, ideally Oxford or UCL, though she is now also considering American universities as an option.

Mr Williams, Bolton School’s Futures advisor for US applications, said: “This is a highly competitive short course at one of the world's most renowned universities and this is a well-deserved opportunity for an exceptional student. Although most of our students go on to study degrees in UK universities, interest in studying abroad or in degree apprenticeships is growing as students look for the right path for their post-18 studies. The Futures team and subject teachers work together to offer bespoke advice for each young person, supporting them to explore their interests and meet their ambitions, whatever route they are seeking to follow.”
