Bolton School

In honour of Earth Day (22 April), last week Bolton School launched the Earthshot competition across the Foundation.

Bolton School’s Earthshot was inspired by the global environmental award of the same name, launched by Prince William in 2020. It challenges young people to come up with innovative and forward-thinking solutions to help the planet. The themes are Protect and Restore Nature, Clear Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate.

This year, for the first time, Infant School pupils at Beech House will also take part, alongside Junior and Senior Boys and Girls, making this a Foundation-wide event encouraging pupils to consider their impact on the environment and how they can help.

In the coming weeks, pupils will choose a theme and think of a specific problem, come up with a creative solution and produce a poster explaining how this idea would fix the planet.

Winners will be revealed on 5 June, World Environment Day.

2026 marks the third occasion that the School has held the Earthshot competition, which runs biennially. Over the past five years, all areas of Bolton School have been awarded a Green Flag by the Eco Schools programme, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to considering the environment and engaging pupils in doing so as well.
