At the end of November, two Girls’ Division Under 13 football teams competed in the Club stage of the Utilita Girls’ Cup, hosted by Bolton Wanderers FC. The B team played well and won one of their three group games. The A team won two and drew one of their group games and progressed to the next stage.

In the quarter finals, the team faced Sharples in a fairly comfortable match which finished with a 3-0 victory and a secured them a place in the semi-finals. This time it was a close match against Little Lever, where Bolton School’s one goal from Abigail Carr proved to be the deciding factor. The Bolton team progressed on to the final against Turton, the side the team had drawn against in the group stage.

A close and well fought final was again decided by a single goal, this time coming from Year 7 pupil Isobel Plano. The team was delighted to be crowned Bolton Wanders FC Club Final Winners 2022/23.

PE teacher and team coach Ms Farrimond-Goff said: ‘The team were brilliant all tournament and showed fantastic resilience and teamwork. It was a very exciting evening and I am grateful to Bolton Wanders in the Community for organising the event and all the parents who gave their support.

The Utilita Girls’ Cup is a national competition with the next round being an area final, followed by a regional final and then the national finals held at Wembley. It’s exciting to be a part of and I’m looking forward to seeing how far this group of talented players can progress.

The team: Abigail Carr, Aleeza Hassan, Alinah McAllister, Ursula Morris, Isobel Plano and Evie Pursey
