At Bolton School Girls’ Division, a series of festive traditions in the run-up to the Christmas holidays have once again raised money for a variety of charitable causes.
On Friday 12 December, the halls of the Girls’ Division were filled with cheer as pupils wore their best Christmas Jumpers in exchange for donations. Two charities had been nominated: Parkinson’s UK, supporting people living with Parkinson’s and funding vital research, and Manchester Youth Zone, giving young people a safe, inspiring space and opportunities to thrive.
The same day saw the launch of this year’s Christmas Post: Year 10 shared funny video sketches filled with pop culture references to drum up support for their sweet sales, taking place in the final week of term. The money raised will go towards Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, which provides specialist care for children and young people across the UK.
As the final week of term got under way, the whole school was entertained by the annual Prefects’ Panto! Crafted by the Prefect Team, and featuring the girls playing their teachers, this is always a highlight of the festive calendar and 2025 was no exception. The audience paid a £1 donation on entry and all proceeds went to Bolton Together, a charity supporting children’s wellbeing across Bolton.
Finally, at the Ceremony of Carols, the Girls’ Division’s annual carol service, there was a retiring collection for Rainbow Hub, a charity based in Mawdesley which offers children and young people with physical disabilities and neurological conditions the support needed to help them reach their full potential.
In addition, Girls’ Division pupils in Year 7 supported the Bolton Lions’ annual Christmas Toy Appeal with a sponsored silence to raise money to buy toys and gifts, and the whole of the Bolton School Foundation came together to help fill Urban Outreach’s Christmas Hampers, this year providing over 3,000 selection boxes for the cause. Lower down the school, the whole of the Primary Division took part in a Reindeer Run to raise money for Bolton Hospice, and in the Infant School Miss Niaz once again organised the Sprinkle of Kindness campaign to provide Christmas gifts and food packages to families in need around Bolton.
