May Serenade is a Celebration of School Music

Girls' Division Music

The annual May Serenade was once again a wonderful occasion at Bolton School Girls’ Division, featuring a broad variety of music from choirs, orchestras and ensembles, and wonderful soloists.

It was an evening of varied music performed with skill by the School’s young musicians: movie themes were played alongside more traditional pieces, meaning that there was something for everyone to enjoy.

As part of the programme, the Upper and Lower School winners of the Music Festival winners performed their pieces for the audience: Amy (Year 13) played ‘Concorde’ by R. Newsome on the cornet, and Anika (Year 8) sang the ‘Dormouse Carol’ by E. Poston. They were also presented with their trophies by Mrs Lynne Kyle, the Head of Girls’ Division.

The May Serenade is also traditionally the final School performance for Year 13 students. It was therefore a poignant occasion for the large group of young musicians who will be leaving at the end of the year. Foundation Director of Music invited the audience to applaud the Year 13s towards the end of the programme, thanking them for their many years of involvement with School music.
