Year 7 pupils at Bolton School Girls’ Division held a Sponsored Silence earlier this term, raising money to buy toys for the Bolton Lions’ annual Christmas appeal. The Toy Appeal provides gifts to children who would otherwise not receive a present on Christmas Day.

The day of silence saw pupils attending their lessons, form times and breaks without speaking on Tuesday 4 December — including the challenge of not chatting during lunchtime clubs and activities! However, the silence was a huge success and the girls raised a whopping £3,817.25 to spend on toys.

Well done to 7F whose final total came in at over a thousand pounds: £1,029.20!

One week after their Sponsored Silence took place, the Year 7 Charity Representatives and some Sixth Form volunteers visited toy shop Smyths at Middlebrook to convert the donations into gifts, where staff were kind enough to offer a discount so that the girls could buy even more toys for the cause! The girls had an excellent time finding a variety of gifts for all age groups and brought trolley-loads of exciting presents back to School for the Bolton Lions to collect.

The Bolton Lions were delighted when they visited the School to collect the Year 7 girls’ donations, which included a cheque for £802.90 to be used to purchase gift cards. The Bolton Lions thanked the girls and their families for their generosity this Christmas.

Sixth Form volunteers from Bolton School are also helping Bolton Lions with fundraising and gift-packing this Christmas.
