Girls' Division Music

This year’s May Serenade, held in the Great Hall at Bolton School Girls’ Division, provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the range and depth of musical talent in the School and to say farewell to Year 13 students.

In a subliminal nod to the date – May the 4th - the evening opened with the School’s Senior Orchestra performing Star Wars: Episode II. They followed this up with some well-chosen selections from the Peer Gynt Suite. Year 11 girls, Amy Costello and Zara Costello then delivered a stunning duet of What is this Feeling? from the musical Wicked.

The Lower School Choir was in fine voice as they offered up a fine rendition of Something Inside So Strong and the School’s talented Jazz Ensemble showed off their virtuosity through Herbie Hancock’s Chameleon. Lucy McCloughlin exhibited her vocal range with the singing of Quiet from Matilda and there was further impressive musicality from The Accidentals who sang Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall from the James Bond film Spectre.

Year 13 student Cynthia Cheung performed a superb piano solo – Nocturne in E, Opus 62, No. 2 before the joint Senior Choir presented a stunning rendition of Adele’s Easy on Me.

Hannah McKee from Year 13 was accompanied by Mr Lovatt, Foundation Director of Music, as the pair delivered a clarinet duet of Views of the Blues – 3rd Movement.

More song closed out a wonderful serenade with Ananya Ajit delivering a solo vocal of I’m Here from The Colour Purple and the School’s Chamber Choir sang Run and What I Did for Love from A Chorus Line.
