In June, a cast of Girls’ and Boys’ Division students from Years 7 to 9 staged Shrek the Musical Jr as the summer 2025 Joint Production.
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and the fantastic Broadway musical, Shrek (played by William in Year 9) leads a mob of fairy-tale misfits on an adventure to rescue princess Fiona (played by Orla in Year 10) and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy-tale, this proved an irreverently funny show with a powerful message for the whole family.
The talented cast was supported by students in Years 10 and 12, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Everyone collaborated on set changes and persisted with choreography. They remained disciplined throughout all-day rehearsals (including two on Sundays). They were inquisitive – “When did Donkey first try parfaits?” – and endlessly imaginative – “At the wedding, let’s make the Captain of the Guard Lord Farquaad’s best man!” They took risks and problem solved at every turn.
Most importantly, they seemed to thoroughly enjoy sharing their show with audiences. We couldn’t have been prouder of them.
