The second half of the Spring Term saw an impressive amount of success for Bolton School’s senior sports teams. Watch a video recap or keep reading below the video to find out more:

At the Town Swimming Championships, the Boys’ Junior and Senior teams and Girl’s Junior team won their age groups, with the Girls’ Intermediate and Senior teams claiming second place. The Girls’ Senior squad also broke the town record for the 4x25m Freestyle relay.

Also in the pool, the Girls’ Division Under 15 Water Polo team were named National Champions, continuing the strong tradition of water polo at Bolton School.

Two Girls’ Division Cricket teams also saw success at the ECB County Indoor Cricket Finals this half term. The Under 15s won their competition, while the Under 13s earned a creditable fifth place finish.

The Boys’ Division Rugby teams brought home silverware from no less than four different tournaments. At the Stonyhurst Rugby 7s the Under 13s won the Cup and at the AKS Rugby 7s they won the Bowl, while the Under 16s won the Cup at Merchant Taylor’s Rugby 7s and also returned with silverware from the Birkenhead Rugby 7s after winning 33-10. The School hosted the Bolton School Rugby 7s tournament towards the end of term, with the under 15s team taking part, and boys in Years 8 and 9 enjoyed a South West Rugby Tour.

March was a busy month for the Girls’ Division Netball teams with multiple town and county competitions taking place. At the Bolton Schools’ Netball Tournaments, the Under 12 A and B teams both made it to the semi-finals, with the A team earning first place. The Under 13 and Under 14 teams also earned silver medals in their competitions, with particular congratulations to the Under 13 squad who scored over 80 goals and conceded only one! At the Greater Manchester County Netball Tournament, the Under 12s won overall, the Under 16s came in third, the Under 15s made it to the semi-final and the Under 13s and Under 14s also took part. The Under 12 team enjoyed the Sisters n Sport Cup Finals held at Loughborough University, where they came in third place and had the opportunity to meet Loughborough Lightning and England Netball players in person.

Not only did the Boys’ Division First XI football team make it to the ISFA Cup Final and bring home silver medals, the Year 8 and Year 10 teams played in Bolton Town Cup finals: both finished in a draw, with the Year 10s winning on penalties. The Year 11 team also made it to their age group final, to be played after the Easter holidays. Girls’ Division teams played at the Under 16s Bolton Town Football Tournament and the Under 13 ISFA North West tournament, with teams placing second in both competitions.

The Girls’ Division Lacrosse teams were also in fine form: the Senior squad and Under 14 team took part in the National Schools Lacrosse competition. The U14s progressed to Division 1 but unfortunately fell short in the semi-finals, while the Senior team finished top of their group after beating last year’s national champions, putting them amongst the top 16 in the country. The Under 12 and Under 14 teams also took part in the Northern Lacrosse Tournament held at Harrogate Ladies’ College.

Finally, on the hockey pitch, the Boys’ Division Under 14s enjoyed a tour of Nottingham, while the Under 13s took part in the Tier 1 North West Hockey Tournament at King’s Chester where they finished in third place. The Girls’ Division Under 13s also took part in the North West Hockey Tournament.

There was also wide sporting participation in the Girls’ Division interform Lacrosse, Netball and Football competitions, and students in Years 9 and 10 performed at the Bolton Schools Dance Festival. At the very start of the half term, the whole of Year 8 enjoyed watching the impressive culmination of the Year 8 Vaulting Final, after competing themselves in the initial rounds earlier in the year.

In individual sporting achievements Beatrix in Year 10 ran in the English Schools National Cross Country Championships, where her 10th place finish qualified her to represent England at Bangor. Year 9 pupil Ella earned second place at the Greater Manchester Climbing Competition and Youth Bouldering Competition, as well as first place at the North West Independent School Climbing Competition, where Anais (Year 10) came second and Honor (Year 12) and Evie (Year 10) took third.
