Creatives Now, Bolton's youth community arts centre supported by Bolton School, has received funding from Amazon’s Regional Creatives Fund.
This funding will support Creatives Now to continue its work to help people from ‘underserved communities’ across Greater Manchester to access and enter creative careers in video production, digital storytelling and documentary filmmaking. The money received from the Regional Creatives Fund grant will support the charity's Bolton Film and Screen Academy: the only dedicated youth filmmaking programme in the borough.
Naomi Lord, director of Creatives Now and Bolton School’s Foundation Director of Creative Learning, said: “We’re proud to be expanding a youth-led filmmaking offer that’s unique in Bolton and rare across the North West.
“Bolton’s young people are ready; this funding helps us match their ambition with opportunity, mentoring and real credits.”
Bolton Film and Screen Academy, delivered in partnership with the National Saturday Club, offers a 15-week hands-on filmmaking course for young people aged 13 to 16. Participants develop skills in screenwriting, cinematography, editing, VFX and post-production, working alongside local industry partners including Bolton Film Office, Sitcom Soldiers and Bolton Film Festival.
This work builds on Creatives Now's short film courses and curation of youth films at Bolton Film Festival, sponsored by Bolton School.
Lucy Kennedy, chief executive of the National Saturday Club, said: “We are delighted that the Amazon Regional Creatives Fund is supporting National Saturday Club host partner Creatives Now to deliver the Film and Screen Saturday Club in Bolton.”
