The Bolton School Girls’ Division’s Under 15 cricketers delivered an outstanding performance at the ECB U15 Schools Indoor County Cricket Finals, emerging as County Champions after a thrilling day of competition at Bolton Arena.
The team began strongly in their opening match against Turton, securing a convincing 101–75 victory. Both Poppy and Amelia impressed with the bat, each retiring after excellent innings. The second game against St Wilfred’s proved to be a nail-biter: Poppy once again retired after a superb contribution, but despite a determined team effort, Bolton narrowly fell short by just two runs, losing 82–84.
The girls responded brilliantly in their third match against Manchester High School for Girls. It was a fantastic all-round team performance, with Olivia and Simar working superbly in partnership and Safaa also retiring. Bolton posted an impressive 102 and restricted their opponents to 73, securing a vital win.
Heading into the final group game against Bishop Rawstorne, it was a must-win scenario. Bolton batted well to reach 86, but their opponents started strongly, putting the pressure on. The team showed great resilience and composure: Simar delivered a couple of exceptional overs, including a maiden with a wicket; Ruby held an important catch; Poppy added another wicket; and Grace bowled a calm and controlled final over. Their combined efforts sealed a crucial 86–73 victory.
With all teams having lost one match, the final standings came down to run difference. Bolton endured an agonising wait as Manchester High and Bishop Rawstorne played their final match, both needing a win by over 100 runs. In the end, Bolton School were crowned champions by the narrowest of margins—just 9 runs!
PE Teacher Ms Farrimond-Goff said: “The girls were delighted with their success and should be incredibly proud of their teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. They now go on to represent Lancashire at the Regional Finals after Easter. Congratulations to the team on a magnificent achievement!”
