Bolton School Alumni

During the Summer Term, it was wonderful to welcome back numerous alumni for some special cricket matches on the Levels.

The first of these was the Mervyn Brooker Memorial Cricket Match on 20 June, held at School for the first time. The School was thrilled to welcome Brigid Brooker and her youngest daughter Claire, who attended the event in Mervyn’s honour and took in a tour of the Boys’ Division, including Mervyn’s former study. Around 44 Old Boys from the ’90s, ’00s, ’10s and ’20s gathered alongside current pupils to play two games on the Levels. Family and friends came along to spectate and all enjoyed a lunch in the Arts Centre. The afternoon saw the winning team, made up of the ’10s players, presented with the trophy. During the post-match drinks at Fannys, all were keen to reminisce about Mervyn, his love of the sport and how playing cricket has maintained engagement with School for so many Old Boys over the years.

Later in the Summer Term, the Boys’ Division 1st XI Cricket Team played in their annual match against MCC. The boys enjoyed the opportunity to play against this prestigious team including some Old Boys, whilst a number of Old Boys and family came along to spectate on the day. Boys were presented with their cricket colours during a lunch and enjoyed hearing from current MCC Captain, Old Boy Adam Syddall, about the long-term connections and friendships he has forged through his love of cricket at School and beyond.

The summer also saw Old Boys gathering for the Taylor Trophy: this golfing competition took place in early July, with a number of Old Boys, Parents and current pupils taking part. This competition is growing in popularity and the School is so pleased to see members from across the community taking part and enjoying golf. Congratulations to winner Joe Riding (Class of 2017) who was victorious once again and to runner-up James Chadwick (Class of 1998).

We encourage any Alumni, Friends and those with a connection to School to get in touch if you wish to find out more about the Golf Society and the other sports that you can continue to enjoy, as player or spectator, with former classmates and staff.
