At the end of the last academic year, talented gymnast Finley, now in Year 12, received the Hindley Trophy for outstanding sporting performance of the year.
Finley was selected for the 2025 Gymnastics Ireland Team and, over the summer holidays, competed at the European Youth Olympics Festival in Osijek, Croatia. This was a multi-sport festival, representing the first step on the route to the Olympics. He was one of 36 athletes sent by Team Ireland to compete across eight different sports, and this was the first time that Ireland has sent a men’s gymnastics team. They exceeded expectations, placing 10th in the Team event, and Finlay contributed to this success by finishing in the top third of competitors. He also qualified for the Vault final and achieved fifth place.
Earlier in 2025, Finley was named the Junior (Under 18) All Around Champion at the Welsh Championships Open, and earned a bronze medal in the Under 18 Vault at the British Championships.
He also enjoyed plenty of success throughout 2024, which contributed to the award of the Hindley Trophy. As well as being a member of the English Gymnastics Squad, at the 2024 Under 16s London Open he achieved third All Around and gold medals in the Floor and Horizontal Bar. At the 2024 British Teams, he was again third All Around, and was a member of the Manchester Academy of Gymnastics gold-medal winning team. At the 2024 Austrian Future Cup, he represented England in the Under 16 age group and finished second All Around.
Finley’s brother Toby, now in Year 11, has also achieved impressive results in gymnastics. He was an Under 16 bronze medallist at the 2024 British Championships and was a member of the 2025 Gymnastics Ireland Team, selected to compete at the Luxembourg Open.
